Shipyards
After the Liberation, Galaxidians build their fleet again. They establish shipyards for the building of wooden sailing vessels first in the two harbours, at the Agora and Chirolakas, and later at Vlicha or Kalafatis, Revythistra or Vystrithra, Katalonia which was divided into Edothen and Pera (“hither” and “thither”), Ammodioskoules or Kentri, and Giannakis as shown in Petratzas painting below left . Each year larger and larger sailing ships are built, some exceeding a thousand tons.
Shipbuilding tools
The tools used in constructing the wooden sailing ships were of a great variety. The ships’ carpenters used a large number of hand-operated tools, similar to those used by ordinary carpenters.
