Paintings of sailing ships of 19th and 20th century
The portraits of the Galaxidi sailing ships by port painters of the Mediterranean and by Greeks, apart from their artistic value, provide precious and often unique evidence about their construction, rigging, sails, ownership and types of ships and also about the ports visited and adventures encountered during the voyage.
The Museum owns the largest collection of such paintings, and they are exhibited in the various thematic sections.
